Measure the working envelope
Write down available width, depth and cabinet height. Then check the movement of the lid, water reservoir, hopper and portafilter. A machine can fit its published footprint and still be awkward to refill beneath a cupboard.
Walk through one drink
Imagine loading beans, weighing a dose, filling water, brewing, serving and clearing the grounds. Place a cup and pitcher in the proposed space to check the reach. Leave room for the scale display and access to controls without leaning over hot components.
Plan the recurring supplies
Find where filters, cleaning supplies and spare parts will live. Keep cleaning products according to their labels, separate from coffee and food. A compact setup is easier to enjoy when the everyday tools do not need to be unpacked from several rooms.
Read the regional manual
Check power and installation requirements for the exact model sold in your market. Use the manufacturer’s guidance for clearance and placement. Do not infer electrical compatibility from a photo or from a similarly named model in another region.
Make the shortlist earn its space
Only after these checks compare optional features. A feature you cannot use comfortably has little practical value. Save your measurements alongside the shortlist so a future replacement can be evaluated against the same constraints.
