DRINK ATLAS / MILK COFFEE

Wiener Melange

Vienna’s coffeehouse classic combines a slightly lengthened coffee with warm milk and a milk-foam crown. It is not simply coffee topped with whipped cream.

Make it at home.

  1. Prepare a small coffee and lengthen it with a little hot water for this home interpretation.
  2. Add warm milk, allowing room for a foam crown.
  3. Finish with milk foam and serve in a cup. A glass of water alongside suits the coffeehouse ritual.

Follow your equipment instructions. Hot liquid and steam require care. Milk alternatives can change the texture.

A QUESTION OF PROPORTION

A serving.
Not a full vessel.

Local recipes differ. The City of Vienna demonstration uses a small lengthened moka; our drawing is an interpretation rather than an official formula.

Schematic capacity view. Amounts are illustrative serving volumes, including foam space; espresso recipe weights are separate. Café recipes and actual vessels vary.
